This book was written to help students start and finish their thesis or dissertation as part of their graduate program. It is intended for students to read as they approach their thesis. It provides quick tips and advice about the research journey itself. It does not operate as a reference for research neither does it explain specific research techniques. It works along with your research manual or guidelines. It provides strategy, direction, hints, tips, warnings, cautions, and general advice related to the development of the thesis or dissertation.

    Book Introduction

The following is an exert from the book introduction:

This book provides practical tips and guidelines helping Master’s and Doctorate students start their thesis in order to reach a successful theory formulation. The book includes three main components you will need on your journey from beginning to end.

First, I’d like to discuss the thesis or dissertation, why it is necessary, and what it is expected to achieve. Then, I will discuss topic selection as the first challenge when writing a thesis, after which I will describe thesis content and the objectives of each component. This is to provide a clear, brief description of the thesis.  I will also include different perspectives on where to start.

Second, I will look at the research journey, and what the journey includes with respect to your life, work, university program, and thesis stakeholders. I will address the relationship with your advisor, your committee members, and others. I will also address the journey tools that ensure you start your dissertation knowing what is coming up.

Third, I will address your theory.  I will look closely at each of your thesis components in detail and provide you with important tips and hints to nail it down.  I will go into detail on each milestone and provide examples of best practices, including the dos and don’ts.

This book is recommended for students at the early stages of thesis development. It is not intended as a step-by-step manual for the thesis process, but rather providing an important thesis development roadmap.
